CRAZ & CASA

The Calgary Region Airshed Zone Society (CRAZ) is a non-profit association comprised of government agencies (federal, provincial and municipal), non-government organizations, industry and the public.
CRAZ’s mission is: to monitor, analyze and provide information on air quality in the Calgary Region Airshed Zone.
As a multi-stakeholder advisory group, CRAZ’s objectives are to:
Website: www.craz.ca email: information@craz.ca
Executive Director: Jill Bloor
There are 9 Airshed zones in the province, with the largest Airshed being the Calgary zone. Air quality monitoring information is provided to Alberta Environment and in some cases is provided by industry to CASA data warehouse. All data at the CASA data warehouse is available to the public www.casahome.org There is work in progress to make all this data in useable format and available from one source (CASA).
CRAZ has taken over the 3 monitoring stations in the City of Calgary and will move toward establishing a fourth station in Calgary.
Alberta Government provided the funding for CRAZ to contract out and have the first 30 passive monitors installed in the CRAZ region. Other monitors and possibly some mobile monitors will eventually be included in the Airshed network, which will provide overall and complete monitoring of the Airshed zone.
In the near future, CRAZ will increase membership and require membership fees from all members (including NGOs) with the ultimate goal of being supported by membership fees. In order to accomplish this, they have begun the process to establish a fair and equitable funding formula in order to sustain itself in its future planning and implementation of a regional air monitoring system.
Currently Alberta Environment and the City of Calgary financially support CRAZ. Bow Valley Clean Air Society is a member of CRAZ and have a representative on the CRAZ Executive Board.
On September 2nd, BVCAS Members, Nick Mushey and Bruce Anderson helped CRAZ with CRAZ’S GAUGE AND SAVE CAMPAIGN at the Husky Gas Station at Dead Man’s Flats. BVCAS & CRAZ thank Nick and Bruce for volunteering and helping CRAZ with their campaign.
